Building a Diagnostic Tool for Locality’s Members
Locality Lighthouse is an interactive diagnostic platform created to help small organisations assess their business readiness and identify areas for development. The tool was developed as a bespoke web application integrated into Locality’s digital ecosystem.
Our role was to bring the diagnostic functionality to life; translating static designs into a dynamic, user-friendly experience. We built a multi-tabbed form where users respond to structured questions about their organisation’s operations. Once complete, the tool generates tailored guidance and a comprehensive report, viewable online and downloadable as a branded PDF. We also integrated the tool with Locality’s Salesforce system, allowing real-time membership checks to ensure access is restricted to verified users. Its architecture includes a large “trends” dashboard powered by Drupal Views, allowing Locality to monitor usage and aggregate insights from participants.
Delivering Functionality with Flexibility
One of the key technical challenges was to build a complex tool within a legacy system; Drupal 7, without compromising usability. We implemented Drupal Commerce to enable premium access for non-members, alongside a clean tabbed interface that kept the user experience simple and focused.
The platform’s reporting engine is particularly robust, converting user inputs into a clear visual summary supported by tailored recommendations. The downloadable PDF reflects the tool’s branding and includes progress markers, making it useful for funders, advisors and internal planning.
